Renault Clio: Front seat: Stripping - Rebuilding

WITHOUT SPORT SEATS, and DOCUMENTATION PHASE 1

IMPORTANT

Before carrying out any work on a safety or proximity system component, lock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic tool. When this function is activated all the ignition lines are disabled and the airbag warning light on the instrument panel is lit when ignition is switched on.

IMPORTANT

It is forbidden to work on pyrotechnic systems (pretensioner or airbag) near a source of heat or a naked flame; there is a risk of the airbags or pretensioners being triggered.

STRIPPING

I - STRIPPING PREPARATION OPERATION

• Lock the airbag computer using Diagnostic tool (see MR 392, Electricity, 88C, Airbags and pretensioners, Precautions for repair).
• Disconnect the battery starting with the negative terminal (see MR 392, Electricity, 80A, Battery: Removal - Refitting).
• Remove:
  • the compete front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames and mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal - Refitting, 75A-33),
  • the front seat base trim (see 77A, Front seat trim, Front seat base trim: Removal - Refitting, 77A-1),
  • the front seatback trim (see 77A, Front seat trim, Front seatback trim: Removal - Refitting, 77A-13).

II - STRIPPING THE PART CONCERNED

• Remove the rivet (1)

• Take out the adjustable lumbar support mechanism (depending on the equipment level).

• Unclip the control at (2).

• Take out the control.

• Unclip the seatback locking cable (3).

• Remove the unlocking system (4) for the runners.

• Unclip the unlocking cable for the runners (5).
• Remove the anti-submarining airbag (see MR 392, Electricity, 88C, Airbags et pretensioners, Antisubmarining airbag: Removal - Refitting).

• Remove:
  • the rivets (6),
  • the seat height adjustment mechanism (depending on equipment level),
  • the front side chest-level airbag (see MR 392, Mechanical, 88C, Airbags and pretensioners, Front side chest-level airbag: Removal - Refitting).

• Remove:
  • the bolts (7),
  • the seatback frame.

• Unclip the connector support (8).

• Remove the nuts (9) from each side of the seat frame.
• Remove the runners.

REBUILDING

I - REBUILDING OPERATION FOR PART CONCERNED

• Refit the runners on the seat base frame.
• Torque tighten the runner mounting nuts (21 N.m).

• Reclip the connector support.

• Refit the backrest frame.
• Torque tighten the seatback frame mounting bolts (40 N.m), (10).
• Refit:
  • the seat height adjustment mechanism (depending on equipment level),
  • the rivets,
  • the front side chest-level airbag (see MR 392, Electricity, 88C, Airbags and pretensioners, Front side chest-level airbag: Removal - Refitting).

C85

• Refit:
  • the unlocking cable for the runners,
  • the seatback unlocking cable,
  • the control.

• Fit the adjustable lumbar support mechanism (depending on the equipment level).

II - FINAL OPERATION

• Refit:
  • the front seatback trim (see 77A, Front seat trim, Front seatback trim: Removal - Refitting, 77A-13),
  • the front seat base trim (see 77A, Front seat trim, Front seat base trim: Removal - Refitting, 77A-1),
  • the entire front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames and mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal - Refitting, 75A-33).
• Connect the battery starting with the positive terminal (see MR 392, Mechanical, 80A, Battery: Removal - Refitting).
• Unlock the airbag computer using Diagnostic tool (see MR 392, Electricity, 88C, Airbag and pretensioners, Precautions for repair).
