Renault Clio: Front seat height adjustment: Removal - Refitting
FRONT SEAT TYPE 02 or FRONT SEAT TYPE 03 or FRONT SEAT TYPE 05, and
WITHOUT SPORT SEATS, and
DOCUMENTATION PHASE 2
IMPORTANT
Before beginning work on any component of the
safety system, it is essential to lock the airbag computer
using the Diagnostic tool (see Airbag and
pretensioners: Precautions for the repair) (88C,
Airbag and pretensioners). When this function is
activated, all the trigger lines are inhibited and the
airbag warning light on the instrument panel is continuously
lit (with the ignition on).
IMPORTANT
Never handle the pyrotechnic systems (pretensioners
or airbags) near to a source of heat or naked
flame - they may be triggered.
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
Note:
To remove the torsion bar, the seat must always
be in the raised position.
- Disconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting)
(80A, Battery).
- Remove:
- the front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames and
mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal -
Refitting, 75A-33),
- the front seat height adjustment control (see 75A,
Front seat frames and mechanisms, Front seat
height adjuster control: Removal - Refitting, 75A-19),
- the front seat base casing (see 77A, Front seat
trim, Front seat lower casing: Removal - Refitting, 77A-30).

- Unclip the side retaining section (1) of the front seat
base cover.
C85
- Unclip the side retaining section (2) of the front seat
base cover.
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
- Position the tool (Car. 1922) on the torsion bar of the
front seat height adjustment mechanism as indicated
on the illustration.
- Slacken the torsion bar using the tool (Car. 1922) at (3).
- Release the torsion bar from the front seat height adjustment mechanism
using the tool (Car. 1922) by pulling it at (4).
- Drill the rivets (5) of the front seat height adjustment
mechanism.
WARNING
To prevent any risk of damaging the covers and
mechanisms, recover any metal residues when
cutting the seat trim clips and/or drilling out the
rivet.
- Remove the front seat height adjustment mechanism.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
- parts always to be replaced: Front seat height
adjustment mechanism rivet
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
- Refit the front seat height adjustment mechanism.
- Position and crimp new rivets for the front seat
height adjustment mechanism.
- Position the torsion bar on the front seat height adjustment mechanism
using the tool (Car. 1922) and by tapping slightly with a mallet at (6).
III - FINAL OPERATION
- Clip on the side retaining section of the front seat
base cover.
- Refit:
- the front seat base casing (see 77A, Front seat
trim, Front seat lower casing: Removal - Refitting, 77A-30),
- the front seat height adjustment control (see 75A,
Front seat frames and mechanisms, Front seat
height adjuster control: Removal - Refitting, 75A-19).
- Carry out a function test.
- Refit the front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames
and mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal
- Refitting, 75A-33).
- Connect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting)
(80A, Battery).
- Unlock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic
tool (see Airbag and pretensioners: Precautions
for the repair) (88C, Airbags and pretensioners).

REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (MR 392, 02A, Lifting equipment).
Remove:
the engine cover,
the engine undertray,
the air filter unit air inlet pipe,
LEFT-HAND DRIVE
WARNING
Prepare for brake fluid outflow, to prevent damage
to the mechanical parts and bodywork around the
braking system.
