Renault Clio: Front seatback trim: Removal - Refitting
WITHOUT SPORT SEATS, and DOCUMENTATION PHASE 1
IMPORTANT
Before carrying out any work on a safety or proximity
system component, lock the airbag computer
using the Diagnostic tool. When this
function is activated, all the trigger lines are disabled
and the airbag instrument panel warning
light is continuously lit when the ignition is
switched on.
IMPORTANT
It is forbidden to work on pyrotechnic systems
(pretensioner or airbag) near a source of heat or
a naked flame; there is a risk of the airbags or
pretensioners being triggered.
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
- Lock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic tool
(see Fault finding - Replacement of components)
(88C, Airbag and pretensioners).
- Disconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting)
(MR 392, 80A, Battery).
- Remove the front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames
and mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal
- Refitting, 75A-33).
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
- Unclip the cover (1) from the seat height adjustment
handle.
- Remove:
- the bolts (2),
- the seat base height adjustment handle (depending
on equipment level).
- Remove the bolt (3).
- Unclip the front section (4) of the trim.
- Unclip the rear section of the trim.
- Remove the trim.
- Disconnect the connector (depending on equipment
level).
- Remove the elastic straps (5) securing the seatback
cover.
- Unlock the headrest through the opening (6) using a
small flat-blade screwdriver.
- Remove the headrest.
- Remove the lumbar adjustment lever using a pair of
unclipping pliers (depending on the equipment level).

- Remove the bolt (7).
- Take out the seatback unlocking mechanism.
- Remove the bolts (8).
- Take out the seatback unlocking mechanism support.
- Unclip the retaining section (9) from the seatback
cover.
- Carefully undo the cover clips on the airbag module (10) and (11).
WARNING
Carefully remove the cover, keeping the velcro
strips attached to the foam to avoid damaging
the seatback foam.
- Lift the rear section of the seatback cover and cut
the clips (12) as necessary.
- Unclip the head rest guides (13).
- Cut the clips (14).
- Remove the " foam-cover " assembly.
- Disconnect the heated pad connector (depending on
the equipment level).
- Separate the cover from the seatback foam.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
WARNING
Before refitting the seatback cover, check that the
Velcro strips are securely glued to the seatback
foam.
- Refit the cover to the seatback foam
- Connect the heated pad connector (depending on
the equipment level).
- Refit the " foam-cover " assembly.
- Clip on the headrest guides.
- Fit the clips (15).
- Refit the clips on the rear section of the seatback.
- Clip the cover clips back onto the airbag module.
- Clip in the retaining section (16).
C85
- Refit:
- the seatback unlocking mechanism support,
- the seatback unlocking control.
- Refit:
- the lumbar adjustment lever (depending on the
equipment level),
- the head rest
- Refit:
- the elastic securing straps,
- the side housing,
- the seat base height adjustment handle (depending
on equipment level).
II - FINAL OPERATION
- Refit the front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames
and mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal
- Refitting, 75A-33).
- Connect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting)
(MR 392, 80A, Battery).
- Unlock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic
tool (see Fault finding - Replacement of components)
(88C, Airbags and pretensioners).
WITHOUT SPORT SEATS, and DOCUMENTATION PHASE 2
IMPORTANT
To avoid any risk of triggering when working on or
near a pyrotechnic component (airbags or pretensioners),
lock the airbag computer using the diagnostic
tool.
When this function is activated, all the trigger lines
are inhibited and the airbag warning light on the
instrument panel lights up continuously (ignition
on).
IMPORTANT
Never handle the pyrotechnic systems (pretensioners
or airbags) near to a source of heat or naked
flame - they may be triggered.
REMOVAL
I - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
- Lock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic tool
(see Fault finding - Replacement of components)
(88C, Airbag and pretensioners).
- Disconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting)
(80A, Battery).
- Remove:
- the front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames and
mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal -
Refitting, 75A-33),
- the front seat headrest guides (see 79A, Seat accessories,
Front seat headrest guide: Removal
- Refitting, 79A-6).

- Raise the rear seat access control (1).
- Remove the bolts (2) of the rear seat access control.
- Remove the rear seat access control at (3).
- Unclip the front seatback angle adjustment control at (4).
FRONT SEAT TYPE 03 or FRONT SEAT TYPE 05
- Remove the front seat lumbar adjustment control at (5).
- Remove the support of the front seat lumbar adjustment
control.
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
- Detach the elastic retaining straps (6) of the front
seatback cover from the front seat base frame.
- Unclip the lower retaining section (7) of the front
seatback cover.
- Open the zip fasteners (8).
- Cut the clips on the seat trim (9).
- Unlock the retaining section pin of the front seat
(chest-level) side airbag concentrator.
- Remove the retaining section pin (10) from the front
seat (chest-level) side airbag concentrator.
- Detach the retaining section of the front seat side
(chest-level) airbag at (11) by sliding it.
- Detach the front retaining sections of the front seatback
cover near the lower clips by sliding them.
Note:
When separating the "cover - foam", keep the
mounting clips of the cover section in position.
These clips are moulded into the foam.
The mounting clips of the cover retaining section
are not sold separately by the Parts Department.
- Unclip the front retaining sections from the front seatback cover near
the central clips using the tool (Car. 1363) (12).
- Unclip the front retaining sections from the front
seatback cover near the top clips using the tool (Car.1363).
- Cut the clips of the seat trim (13) on the front seat
lumbar pad.
WARNING
To avoid any risk of damaging the seat trims and
mechanisms, remove any metal residues of the
seat trim clips.
- Remove the front seatback cover.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
- parts always to be replaced: Seat trim clip.
IMPORTANT
To avoid any risk of a fault in the event of the seat
side airbag being deployed, always use the clips
for the 2nd generation seat trim.
1 - Seat trim clips - 1st generation
Note:
After crimping, the ends of the clips for the 1st
generation seat trim protrude slightly.
2 - Seat trim clips - 2nd generation
Note:
After crimping using the tool (Car. 1521), the
ends of the clips for the 2nd generation seat trim
are completely contained, thereby avoiding any
risk of snagging or injuries.
WARNING
To avoid any risk of the cover detaching or any
folds in the cover, check that the clips of the
retaining section are secure on the foam. If a clip
is pulled out, replace the foam.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
- Position the front seatback cover over the front seatback
foam.
- Crimp the new seat trim clips onto the lumbar pad
using the tool (Car. 1521).
- Clip the front retaining sections of the front seatback
cover.
- Refit:
- the retaining section of the front seat (chest-level)
side airbag concentrator,
- the retaining section pin for the front seat (chest-level)
side airbag concentrator.
- Crimp the new seat trim clips at the rear section of
the front seat cover using the tool (Car. 1521).
- Close the zip fasteners.
- Clip on the lower retaining section of the front seatback
cover.
- Refit the elastic securing straps of the front seatback
cover.
III - FINAL OPERATION
FRONT SEAT TYPE 03 or FRONT SEAT TYPE 05
- Refit:
- the support of the front seat lumbar adjustment
control,
- the front seat lumbar adjustment control.
- Refit the front seatback angle adjustment control.

- Refit the rear seat access control.
- Refit:
- the headrest guides (see 79A, Seat accessories,
Front seat headrest guide: Removal - Refitting, 79A-6),
- the front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames and
mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal -
Refitting, 75A-33).
- Connect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting)
(80A, Battery).
- Unlock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic
tool (see Fault finding - Replacement of components)
(88C, Airbags and pretensioners).
SPORT FRONT SEATS
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
- Disconnect the battery (see ) (80A, Battery).
- Remove the front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames
and mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal
- Refitting, 75A-33).
- Unclip the exterior trim of the front seatback casing
using the (Car. 1363).
- Remove the bolts of the interior trim of the front seatback
casing.
- Unclip the interior trims of the front seatback casing (1).
II - REMOVAL OPERATION
- Unclip the retaining sections of the front seatback
cover, starting at the top.
- Tilt the front seatback " foam - cover " assembly.
- Unclip the lower retaining section of the front seatback
cover using the (Car. 1363).
- Remove the front seatback " foam - cover " assembly.
- Partially remove the front seatback trim.
WARNING
To avoid any risk of damaging the foam, separate
the cover from the foam by holding the velcro
strips.
- Unclip the front seatback cover.
WARNING
To avoid any risk of damaging the foam, separate
the cover from the foam by holding the cover
retaining section clips.
- Detach the side retaining sections of the front seatback
cover at the clips by sliding them.
- Remove the front seatback cover.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
- Check that the velcro strips are properly fastened on
the foam.
WARNING
To avoid any risk of detaching or creating folds in
the cover, check that the velcro strips are
secured correctly on the foam. If the velcro strips
tear, replace the foam.
WARNING
To avoid any risk of the cover detaching or any
folds in the cover, check that the clips of the
retaining section are secure on the foam. If a clip
is pulled out, replace the foam.
II - REFITTING OPERATION
- Clip on the side retaining sections of the front seatback
cover.
- Refit the front seatback cover.
- Check that there are no folds in the cover.
- Refit the front seatback " foam - cover " assembly.
- Clip the retaining sections of the front seatback cover.
- Check that the cover edge is correctly tucked into
the front seatback casing.
Note:
There must be no separations between the cover
and the front seatback casing.
III - FINAL OPERATION
- Proceed in the reverse order to removal.
