Renault Clio: Clutch circuit: Removal - Refitting

JH3 or JR5

Note:

Each time an operation is carried out on the hydraulic clutch system, bleed the circuit:

• between the reservoir and the bleed hole,
• between the bleed hole and the clutch release bearing.

REMOVAL

I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION

K4J or K4M

• Remove the resonator.

• Remove the air inlet duct.

K4J or K4M or K9K

• Remove:
  • the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting),
  • the air filter unit (see Air filter unit: Removal - Refitting).

• Remove the air filter unit (see Air filter unit: Removal - Refitting).

RIGHT-HAND DRIVE

• Remove:
  • the soundproofing mounting clips (1),
  • the soundproofing partially from the bulkhead in the engine compartment.

• Fit a hose clamp on the connection (2) between the brake fluid reservoir and the master cylinder.
• Disconnect the hose (3) on the master cylinder.

II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART CONCERNED

• Remove the bleed plug (4).
• Connect a transparent pipe between the bleed hole and an empty container placed under the bleed hole.
• Fasten the clip (5) to lock the clutch control pipe.
• Lift up the clip (6).
• Pull out the clutch control pipe one notch to free the bleed hole.
• Depress the pedal using your hand (to drain the master cylinder and the clutch pipe).

• Lift up the clip (7).
• Disconnect the pipes from the slave cylinder.
• Fit plugs into the openings.

• Place a cloth under the master cylinder.
• Lift up the master cylinder clip (8).
• Uncouple the pipe from the master cylinder.
• Fit plugs into the openings.

RIGHT-HAND DRIVE

• Lift up the clip (9) on the sleeve at the gearbox end.
• Disconnect the pipe from the sleeve.
• Fit plugs into the openings.
• Remove:
  • the pipe (10) between the slave cylinder and the sleeve,
  • the pipe (11) between the master cylinder and the sleeve.

LEFT-HAND DRIVE

• Remove the clutch control pipe between the master cylinder and the slave cylinder.

REFITTING

I - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART CONCERNED

RIGHT-HAND DRIVE

• Refit:
  • the pipe between the slave cylinder and the sleeve,
  • the pipe between the master cylinder and the sleeve.
• Remove the plugs from the sleeve openings.
• Connect the pipe to the sleeve.
• Fasten the sleeve clip on the gearbox end.

LEFT-HAND DRIVE

• Refit the clutch control pipe between the master cylinder and the slave cylinder.

• Remove the plugs from the master cylinder openings.
• Connect the pipe to the master cylinder.
• Fasten the clip onto the master cylinder.
• Remove the cloth from under the master cylinder.
• Remove the plugs from the slave cylinder openings.
• Connect the slave cylinder pipe.
• Fasten the clip on the pipe side.
• Connect the hose to the master cylinder.

II - FINAL OPERATION

• Remove the hose clamp from the connection between the brake fluid reservoir and the master cylinder.
• Bleed the clutch control (see 37A, Mechanical component controls, Clutch circuit: Bleed, 37A-100).
• Check that the clutch system is operating correctly.
• Refit the bleed plug.

RIGHT-HAND DRIVE

• Refit:
  • the bulkhead soundproofing in the engine compartment,
  • the soundproofing mounting clips.

• Refit the air filter unit (see Air filter unit: Removal - Refitting).

K4J or K4M or K9K

• Refit:
  • the air filter unit (see Air filter unit: Removal - Refitting),
  • the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting).

K4J or K4M or K9K

• Refit the air inlet duct.

K4J or K4M

• Refit the resonator.

TL4

Note:

For every operation on the hydraulic clutch system, it is essential to bleed:

• between the reservoir and the bleed hole,
• between the bleed hole and the clutch thrust bearing.

REMOVAL

I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION

• Remove the air inlet duct.
• Remove:
  • the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting),
  • the air filter box (see Air filter unit: Removal - Refitting).

RIGHT-HAND DRIVE

• Remove:
  • the soundproofing mounting clips (1),
  • the soundproofing partially from the bulkhead in the engine compartment.

• Fit a hose clamp on the connection (2) between the brake fluid reservoir and the master cylinder.
• Disconnect the hose (3) on the master cylinder.

II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART CONCERNED

• Remove the bleed plug (4).
• Connect a transparent pipe between the bleed hole and an empty container placed under the bleed hole.
• Press clip (5).

WARNING

Do not pull the clip. If it is incorrectly handled in any way, the pipe will need to be replaced.

• Pull out the master cylinder control pipe by one notch.
• Depress the clutch pedal with your hand (to drain the master cylinder and the clutch pipe).

• Press clip (5).
• Disconnect the pipes from the slave cylinder.
• Fit plugs into the openings.

• Place a cloth under the master cylinder.
• Lift the master cylinder clip (6).
• Uncouple the pipe from the master cylinder.
• Fit plugs into the openings.

RIGHT-HAND DRIVE

• Lift up the clip (7) on the sleeve at the gearbox end.
• Disconnect the pipe from the sleeve.
• Fit plugs into the openings.
• Remove:
  • the pipe (8) between the slave cylinder and the sleeve,
  • the pipe (9) between the master cylinder and the sleeve.

LEFT-HAND DRIVE

• Remove the clutch control pipe between the master cylinder and the clutch slave cylinder.

REFITTING

I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION

• Check the condition of the pipe seals, replacing them if necessary.

II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART CONCERNED

RIGHT-HAND DRIVE

• Refit:
  • the pipe between the slave cylinder and the sleeve,
  • the pipe between the master cylinder and the sleeve.
• Remove the plugs from the sleeve openings.
• Connect the pipe to the sleeve.
• Fasten the sleeve clip on the gearbox end.

LEFT-HAND DRIVE

• Refit the clutch control pipe between the master cylinder and the slave cylinder.

• Remove the plugs from the master cylinder openings.
• Connect the pipe to the master cylinder.
• Fasten the clip onto the master cylinder.
• Remove the cloth from under the master cylinder.
• Remove the plugs from the slave cylinder openings.
• Connect the slave cylinder pipe to the first notch.
• Fasten the clip on the pipe side.
• Connect the hose to the master cylinder.

III - FINAL OPERATION.

• Remove the hose clamp from the connection between the brake fluid reservoir and the master cylinder.
• Bleed the clutch control (see 37A, Mechanical component controls, Clutch circuit: Bleed, 37A-100).
• Check that the clutch system is working properly.
• Refit the bleed plug.

RIGHT-HAND DRIVE

• Refit:
  • the bulkhead soundproofing in the engine compartment,
  • the soundproofing mounting clips.

• Refit the air inlet duct.
• Refit:
  • the air filter box (see Air filter unit: Removal - Refitting),
  • the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting).
• Refit the resonator.
